A documentary inspired from a real story

RFK Must Die plot

The investigative documentary came out in 2007. It was made by Irish writer Shane O’Sullivan and aims to discover some of the secrets associated with RFK’s assassination. The film consists of a deep analysis of the events that lead to his assassination. The director has also interviewed plenty of people to find out more about what could have caused this drama. One of these interviews targets Sirhan’s brother Munir, who discusses about his brother’s childhood, as well as the traumas and injustices that turned him into a killer. The director has also interviewed Paul Schrade, a local union leader who was also shot during the unfortunate event.

The event background

Robert F. Kennedy was a presidential candidate. He was one of the best rated leaders of the democrats in California and the world was quite confident in his success against Richard Nixon. During the campaign, Kennedy attended multiple events and held speeches in front of his supporters. One of them took place at the Ambassador Hotel from Los Angeles. He ended up walking through the pantry – surrounded by his guards – when he was assassinated. Based on the evidence, it seems that the politician was short from about an inch away – someone fired from behind his right ear. Sirhan Sirhan was convicted of murder, yet there is not enough evidence, as it seems Sirhan was a few feet in front of the politician. Besides, he claims he does not remember the shooting, suggesting that he was in a hypnotic state.

Suspicious circumstances

At a first glance, it looks like a classic case of assassination. Someone important is killed by someone who feels offended by certain ideas or ideologies. However, there are a few reasons behind the popularity of this documentary. Moreover, there are many leads that have been forgotten, such as Sirhan’s position according to witnesses. Moreover, FBI agent William Bailey claims on noticing more bullet holes around the pantry. Overall, it is believed that 13 different shots were fired. Plus, witnesses claim to see two people running away from the hotel. In other words, there are a few theories that there might have been more than just one assassin. However, these leads were not really followed, so the case was closed. More than half a century after the tragic event, Shane O’Sullivan tries to bring the case back and make some light.

The response

Shane O’Sullivan is not just grabbing interviews and raising question marks. His extensive research has actually brought in plenty of new evidence. He found new videos and photos that suggest more CIA operatives were responsible for the assassination. In fact, the producer claims three of them were seen everywhere around Kennedy and should be held responsible for the killing – George Joannides, David Sanchez Morales and Gordon Campbell. They are seen before and after the killing. There is a bit of controversy though. While Campbell was dead six years before the assassination, someone else has obviously used his name as an alias. The documentary received an encouraging success. However, there were also a few critics who blamed the new theories and leads, yet the producer stood by his newly discovered research.
